Danakil Depression Tours from Semera

3 Days and 2 Nights

Day 1: Depart from Semera

drive across the Afar desert toward Dodom, passing small nomadic villages and dramatic lava fields, then in the late afternoon begin the ascent to Erta Ale to witness the glowing volcanic crater at sunset before spending the night camping near the rim under the stars.

Day 2: Drive to Ahmdela

Make an early descent from Erta Ale and continue driving north through remote Afar settlements toward Hamed Ela, arriving at the salt flats where you will witness the traditional Afar salt-mining process and watch the long camel caravans loading and moving across the white desert during sunset, then overnight in a simple open-air desert camp.

Day 3: Visit Dalol, then drive to Semera

Begin early to explore Dallol’s surreal hydrothermal landscapes with its colorful sulfur fields, salt canyons, and acid springs, visit the salt-cutting areas and see camel trains transporting salt blocks, then drive back through the lowlands and return to Semera by late afternoon.
